Improved communication between the leadership of the workers union and the management of Standards Organisation of Nigeria is a sine qua non to improved welfare of the workforce.
This assertion was made by the Director General, Mr. Osita Aboloma during a visit of leaders of SON Workers Union (SONWU) to the DG led by the Chairman Comrade Ishaku Gamagiri.
According to the DG, leadership of the Union is a sacred mandate in which the members of the Union surrender their rights to their elected leaders for tending.
The DG acknowledged the necessity for virile and active workers union to promote balanced decisions on rights, privileges and obligations as well as the overall wellbeing of the Nation, the organisation and its workforce.
According to him, members of management and the Union are first citizens, before being workers and then union members as well as leaders.
Speaking earlier, Comrade Gamagira expressed the Union’s seasonal compliments to the DG and Management on behalf of the workers.
The visit according to him was to thank the DG and Management for its efforts at addressing staff welfare in 2017 and to commence discussion on areas of improvement.
He assured the DG of the Union’s determination to promote constructive engagement and total dedication of the workforce to achieving organisational goals.
Comrade Gamagira informed the DG of the imminent election of the Union in the second quarter of the year when according to him, the tenure of the present Officers would be coming to an end.
The DG called for a keen observation of the Government’s plans and direction in relation to the economy to enable SON takes it bearing appropriately.
He admonished the Union leaders to ensure a hitch free transition whenever the elections are conducted.
Other leaders of the SONWU on the delegation were Comrades John Francis Bature, Secretary and Gimba Alhassan, Treasurer.
